The Justice Integration Services Application Development and Support Department is responsible for both the maintenance of existing applications, as well as the development of new applications for Justice and Public Safety agencies. Existing production applications were initially written in PowerBuilder by a third party vendor under the management of JIS. Today, JIS has included in its responsibilities, the complete maintenance, support, and modifications of these application without external assistance.

JIS has also expanded its technological environment to embrace N-Tier technology and JAVA. Currently, all new applications are written in JAVA and the vision is to migrate all existing applications onto the N-Tier environment as well. JIS continues to support both PowerBuilder and JAVA until a full migration is complete.

In addition to the support JIS provides to 15 Justice and Public Safety Agencies, JIS is making its first attempt to web enable applications for use by authorized agencies outside the JIS umbrella. JIS is also making headway in the direction of making authorized public information readily available for the Public to access via the internet.
